Question : "A specified authentication package is unknown" on client workstations after updating Windows servers
|
|
Applies to: Networks with Domain Controllers running Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Server Clients with Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional w/ SP2 or below
We ran a Windows Update on the servers to repair an issue with lsass.exe, your reason for updating may differ. In any event afterwards, all systems on the network that had not been updated stopped responding to the DC's and other member servers.
If you attempted to login or access the systems via a UNC path or shared drive, you receive the error "A specified authentication package is unknown".
At present we have not been able to remedy the situation.
We applied the BITS 2.0 and HTTPS 5.2 updates as per microsofts suggestion. This was a temporary relief, but after awhile 250 machines will just stop connecting to the servers.
If anyone has any ideas how to get this back to functional status, please let us know.
Rejoining the domain is not an answer. Thanks:)
