Question : Help with existing formula

I have the following formula in Excel:

{=MAX(IF(OFFSET(FirstMainAuto,1,0):OFFSET(LastMainAuto,-1,0)=AutoSelectedText,OFFSET(FirstMainMile,1,0):OFFSET(LastMainMile,-1,0),""),IF(OFFSET(FirstFuelAuto,1,0):OFFSET(LastFuelAuto,-1,0)=AutoSelectedText,OFFSET(FirstFuelMile,1,0):OFFSET(LastFuelMile,-1,0),""),IF(OFFSET(FirstTripAuto,1,0):OFFSET(LastTripAuto,-1,0)=AutoSelectedText,OFFSET(FirstTripMile,1,0):OFFSET(LastTripMile,-1,0),""))}

I can't remember what the { } are for nor how do create them in the formula field.... Any assistance is appreciated.
