Question : Windows Home Vista fails to startup - Black screen with mouse pointer

I have a laptop that is having issues, I am pretty sure a format would solve this but this is not what I am hoping for.  There have been alot -- Too many posts about this and there all different issues involving the black screen error. Basiclly I turned off my laptop for the night, came back today, and it is having issues.. Here are the symptoms:

-Right after the loading screen of Vista (Green processing bar with the MICROSOFT CORPORATION at the bottom) windows goes into a black screen with a mouse pointer.
-I do not see or hear anything else, no Windows Logo screen saying welcome or anything like that.
-Safe mode does not work.
-Mouse IS moveable/active
-System ends up rebooting itself after 3 (maybe 4?) minutes. Does a loop. However, I know this is not a hardware issue (almost certain) because I've run several tests on the hard drive and memory for the most case, plus the recovery center is fine (doesn't reboot or do odd stuff).. AKA when you hit F8, theres a "Repair your computer" option, where you can do system restore etc.

What I have tried:
-Trying the trick involving hitting shift 5 times to get the sticky keys so that I could try to load regedit/explorer there, but sticky keys does not appear anyways. Either does WIN-U/etc.
-Deleted the event logs that the event viewer creates  (well renamed the folder to Logs.Old and remade the Logs folder) that might of been corrupt. (C:\Windows\System32\winevt)
-Unplugging everything, including removal of the battery, and tried rebooting.
-System restore did not work. (Week ago restore, last one I could do).
-Last known config does not work either.
-Again, safemode anything does not work.
-Made sure 'SHELL' in registry winlogon is pointed to explorer.exe
-Tried a chkdsk to see if could find anything there, but nothing.
-Startup repair works but did not solve anything.

Just a FYI., again I can use regedit, but you always need to LOAD HIVE/UNLOAD HIVE to get the proper hive, because using the recovery console and using regedit there, loads a registry thats for the repair console (AKA like a mini windows loading.) Some people say disabling the event viewer solves it but I cannot edit any services at this time.. Then again, safe mode doesnt work, and dont think it uses the viewer there? Also, I have always kept teatimer (Search and Destroy) and Avira on, there both very well and have prevented alot of issues for spyware, so I do not think its that either (Aka I deny anything that comes up.)

Hopfully we can get this solved.. I know theres some ways to go about reinstalling and keeping your information but let us see if anyone knows anything better.

Answer : Windows Home Vista fails to startup - Black screen with mouse pointer

So, have you tried the event log fix?

Either

1. after the KSOD HD activity ended and i pressed shift for 5 or 8 times , the window came, i clicked yes.. but it hanged and freezed ..

2. i tried next time i rebooted, after clicking the shift for 5 or 8 times, the window appear, and there is a link on that window says :

Go to the Ease of Access Center to disable the keyboard shortcut

3. i clicked on that , an explorer window opens, in that window clear the link and type msconfig and run it.

4. in the selective startup ive unchecked the two options, apply restart.

5. windows started with explorer.

6. running msconfig again, enabling all under startup items and all under services, but IVE UNCHECKED THE FOLLOWING :

A. Windows Event Log.

B. Windows Event Collector.

Or...

Unbelievable.. I have renamed/replaced C:\windows\system32\winevt\logs with a SLAX Live CD on a Compaq Vista Home Premium, and its worked! I wish to thank all of you, guys, grazie mille!

Actually, I need to clean the event log from time to time (the log file can be over 1GB even for a short period of one month) as I notice that the hard disk space has been eat up by the system. Maybe, my practice has prevented me from getting into KSOD.

Have you cleared up the event log before? I think it is MS fault in designing the event log system which can screw up the PC when the event log file get corrupted.
