Question : printing color fill effects in word 2003

I have added color to my Word 2003 document by using format, background, fill effects, and have chosen 2 colors to be blended diagonally. I am using an HP Officejet 6210xi All-in-One printer.  I am able to print pictures in color from my printer, but hen I try and print the page with the background fill effects, it prints without any of the fill effects that show on the page (print preview shows the page without the effects as well).  All I get is a blank page.  How can I get the fill effect colors to print? Thank you.

It basically wants you to go to:

1. Click "Tools" then "Options".
2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Print" tab.
3. Check "Background colors and images".
4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.
