Question : Event ID 3001 - atkctrs - Unable to Open ATK device for R access.

I have a 2003 Small Business Server that regularly repeats the same event over and over, 3-5 times per minute.  It is event ID 3001 only and it says Unable to open ATK device for R access.  Returning IO Status Block in Data.

This is on a network with a few MACs so the Apple Talk Protocol is enabled for file printing etc and all services are started without issues.  The MACs work fine but can't find out where what is causing this error.  

Please help!  Any and all thoughts are needed!

I note one of the suggestions is a bad cable or NIC. I suppose you could try turning off all the Macs and see if the problem goes away. If it does, turn them back on one-by-one to see if you can isolate the problem to one Mac.

If the problem persists with all Macs turned off, you might also have to turn off the AppleTalk enabled printers as well.
