Question : The World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW Service) did not register the URL prefix https://*:443/ for site 1.

Hello technicians!

There is one error that bothers me, and it is related to IIS 7 web services. In particular - port 443 (security connection). It came up after that update yesterday. That is the only think I cannot figure out. Error says:

The World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW Service) did not register the URL prefix https://*:443/ for site 1. The necessary network binding may already be in use. The site has been disabled. The data field contains the error number.

I think there can be a possibility that somebody have already purchased ssl for the company I work for before I installed my certificate on their server. Notice, when you open https://harmer.com/ a different certificate shows up on their website. (see attachment). We purchased godaddy.com certificate which shows up correctly here https://mail.harmer.com/owa/

Does that mean I should find and delete the old certificate (if that is a case) ? Do you think this is a cause of the error I got.

We have Small Business Server 2008 and Exchange 2007 installed.
The certificate was purchased for name mail.harmer.com

Let me know if you need more info.

Thank you very much !

Answer : The World Wide Web Publishing Service (WWW Service) did not register the URL prefix https://*:443/ for site 1.

The reason you get that kind of error is because you're trying to use two SSL certificates on the same IP. IIS requires that any site that uses SSL certificates must be on separate IP's so if you've got another IP assign the new site to the other IP and then try and bind the certificate.
