Question : How long it takes to reach the Transaction Log Numbering Sequence limit in exchange 2003/2007?

Hi Experts,

A few weeks ago, we got the aler below from the MOM server, to restart transaction log secuence on an Exchange server.

The transaction log sequence for a storage group is about to run out of available file names.
Description:  Information Store (5368) xxxxxxxxxx: Log sequence numbers for this instance have almost been completely consumed. The current log generation is 918000 (0x000E01F0) which is approaching the maximum log generation of 1048559 (0x000FFFEF), there are 130559 (0x0001FDFF) log generations left to be used. To begin renumbering from generation 1, the instance must be shutdown cleanly and all log files must be deleted. Backups will be invalidated.

I would like to know, how long it takes to reach the Transaction Log Numbering Sequence limit in exchange 2003/2007?

Is there a way to calculate this?

Thanks in advance

well if you average 2400 log files a day, then you have about 55 days from the time that message came up.

However, you can't "guess" on the number of days like that, a lot fo spam comes in or jsut a lot of mail traffic, and suddenly you do 5000 logs instead.

Best to clean it up ASAP
