Question : Hide Sharepoint navigation elements from users that do not have permission for them
In WSS 3.0 I have created a help desk site. I do not regular users of the site to see things like the top navigation tabs "home", "Operations", "Application Management", etc... because when they click the tabs they are prompted to logon as a user that has permissions to those areas. Is there some setting to hide controls and links from users that have no permissions for them?
thanks, bmutch

Keep in mind I am familiar with WSS and MOSS 2007, but I am using MOSS 2007. If you break the Permissions in the other sites you have Home, Operations, and Application Management and only give the users that you want to view those sites permission all other users will not even see them. Go into each site (separately) and select site actions in the top right. Select Site Settings and People and Groups. In the left column select Site Permissions. This will show you the permissions you have for the site you are currently in. Automatically the site will inherit permissions from its parent site until those permissions are broken by selecting the Actions button drop down and edit user permissions. Delete all the users and groups out of the sub-site that you do not want to have access. You will need to create New Groups, assign the permissions to them, and add people to them.
