Question : Excel sheet renumbering

I need to renumber the sheets in a workbook.  Not rename the sheets but change the ordinal number of the sheets.  In researching the issue I have seen many suggestions involving renaming the sheets but none that addressed the renumbering problem.  So my question is - is it possible to change the ordinal number of a sheet and if so how?

I presume you mean the sheet number as displayed in the VBE?  If so you must do it manually - here is the help comment on this:

The value that you see in the cell to the right of (Name) in the Properties window is the code name of the selected object. At design time, you can change the code name of an object by changing this value. You cannot programmatically change this property at run time.
