Question : Alter sp in sql 2008

Hi experts,

I have a stored procedure where I have changed a column from varchar(300) to varchar(500)
but when I try to insert a text with > 300 characters it still cuts the text at 300....

Do I have to do something in sql 2008 to make the change "go through"?
