Question : Pivot Table in Excel - refresh button disabled - why????

Please help. I can't quite figure this out.
I have a spreadsheet taht contains a pivot table. Now there is another sheet in the same workbook that contains the data for the report. It gets this data from a main log (through an excel import query).
Everytime a user opens the pivot table spreadsheet, it asks for the user if they want to enable automatic refresh. The user is supposed to enable it so it can get new data from the main log.
Now when the user tries to refresh the actual pivot table, the 'refresh data' is grayed out! Even the 'table settings' is disabled. It was not like this before. Only when we opened it today.
Does anyone know why? How can we refresh the pivot table?

The worksheet is protected which is why you can't refresh it.
