Question : Question on PST's
Hi All
We have a shared mailbox;
[email protected]
. The HR department is composed of 5 people working in different offices who all access the shared mailbox via their own Outlook profile (they have Full Mailbox Access).
HR now want to look into storing mails so that the mailbox quota is not eaten up, so the possibility of using a PST file has been discussed.
However, the PST will more than likely be installed on one HR member's PC, and others will have to access over the LAN. There won't be a situation where more than one person needs to access the PST at the same time, since they all manage the mailbox on different days of the week.
I had some questions regarding this:
i) What protocol does Outlook use to access PST's? Is it MAPI or just some file share protocol?
ii) Is accessing PST files over a LAN recommended?
iii) What sort of problems are we likely to encounter in our situation?
iv) What is the best solution? I'm thinking Public Folders?
Any help appreciated.

You should not use PST files in this way.
I recommend you increase their mailbox quota so that you don't have to do this.
