Using the MS Word 2003 add in to convert document directly to Adobe format.  Adobe document comes up usually missing the top few lines from the following pages.

Use Cutepdf printer as suggested by Sankar1985. That way you can convert anything to pdf, not just word documents. Anything that can be printed will be coverted to pdf.
