Question : Difference between Windows firewall and the SharedAccess service

What is the difference between Windows Firewall and the SharedAccess service? Are they the same thing or different? I notice that if I disable Windows Firewall the SharedAccess service or "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS)" is still running. Why is this?

Answer : Difference between Windows firewall and the SharedAccess service

It is the same, "SharedAccess" is just the registry name of Windows Firewall Service.
Every Service has a friendly name (as you see it in services.msc), and a registry name with which the Operating system identifies that service.

This service performs 2 functions
"Provides network address translation, addressing, name resolution and/or intrusion prevention services for a home or small office network.'
- Roughly, it means it provides shared internet access if u're using ICS (internet connection sharing across 2 NIC's) or if u're using Windows Firewall.

When you disabled this service, did you stop it manually as well.
If it doesn't shutdown, please reboot the machine and check.
