Question : Joining a remote Windows 7 client to an SBS 2008 domain

I wish to join a remote Windows 7 client machine to my newly setup Small Business Server domain.  The user can connect to the server by VPN.  He needs to be able to access some shared folders on the server along with other domain users.  I am concerned that if I use http://connect I'll lose the VPN connection at the first reboot. So can I do this join and still preserve the users profile / settings etc.   manually?  If so, what are the steps I need to take.

Answer : Joining a remote Windows 7 client to an SBS 2008 domain

You should join a domain locally, not remotely. Bring the machine in and join it to the domain, then make it remote. If the machine will never be local, then it probably does not need to be on the domain anyway. You can get services from your server by connecting the user's share with a NET USE statement. Then they should have all they need. ... Thinkpads_User
