Question : Powerpoint 2003.  Excel embedded items returning an error

One of our users has created a power point file with some embedded excel files.  The excel files were not imported, they were created within excel, merely the data was copy and pasted across.  most of the items can be double clicked and re-edited, however one or two of them return this error:
 
"the server application source file or item cannot be found or returned an unknown error"

I've had a look and a lot of people talked about talked about "org chart" but I didn't think 2003 used that.  I tried to install/update it anyway, which made no difference.  I don't believe its a corrupt install of the office suite as it does it on any machine.

If the data has been pasted as a link, it needs access to the source file.
If the source file is on someone's local machine and the document is being opened on another machine, it wont be able to find the original document.
