Question : ASP.Net page slow to load large dropdown list

Hi all, I'm hoping you can help out with a problem I'm having relating to the slow performance of an ASP.Net page. I've included the full source code, but the real guts of the problem is detailed below....

I have a web page that allows users to enter a "new client" into the database. Essentially this is just a textbox that allows them to input the company name.

On the same page there is also a dropdownlist control that is bound to a SQLDataSource. The datasource queries the client table in the database to produce a full list of client names. There are now over 5,000 names in this list.

On inserting a new client into the database I want to refresh the dropdownlist and see the new client in the list. The problem is the postback takes a very long time to complete (actually doing this through an AJAX partial postback....but still takes too long).

Is there anyway to speed up the process? The query runs very quickly on the database (both the insert and the select) so it seems to purely be the loading of the dropdownlist control with 5,000 + records.

well.. i solve that problem with joining the name and ID ..

data can be populated as
(#clientID) ClientName

(#1) Melih SARICA
(#2) Melih 2
(#4) Melih 3
(#4) Melih 4

then when u get the value from that data
