Question : Computer Browsing Windows 2008 Server with XP Professional Clients
Our new Dell Poweredge T310 Server is loaded with Windows 2008 Standard Server OEM obtained with the server. Two computers are connected to the server at this time.
When on an XP workstation and browsing:
My Network Places > Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Domain
I get an error "My Domain Name" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator.......
No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept.
Active Directory is turned on. The two clients have joined the domain. I can reach mapped drives and read remote files. I just can't browse network resources.
Not sure what I'm missing here.
Answer : Computer Browsing Windows 2008 Server with XP Professional Clients
In Windows 2008 the Computer Browser service is disabled because it is incompatible with IPv6 so you need to disable IPv6 and then start the Computer Browser service.
