Question : SQl Server 2005 Event ID 833

Hello,

I'm currently running an Active / Passive SQL Server 2005 cluster. I have around 30 databases running on the active node and yesterday I started seeing the following events in the Event Viewer.

Event Type:      Information
Event Source:      MSSQLSERVER
Event Category:      (2)
Event ID:      833
Date:            11/7/2008
Time:            1:28:35 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:
Description:
SQL Server has encountered 1 occurrence(s) of I/O requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file [PATH TO THE DATA FILE] in database [MY DATABASE] (11).  The OS file handle is 0x00000BB0.  The offset of the latest long I/O is: 0x0000035b85c000

This is running on Server 2003 Enterprise 32bit. I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed.

They seem to be  at odd times and at least once it seems to have caused the cluster to fail over. I've upgraded the drivers for the HP EVO cards but I still got this error a couple of hours later. I've read about some CPU clock timing slipage and I'm still investigating that.

Does anyone else know what might be causing this or could possible give me some direction to start looking?

Answer : SQl Server 2005 Event ID 833

I think I have found a solution.

I've updated the Emulex Storport driver using HP ProLiant Support Pack  8.11 and I installed the following Microsoft hotfix.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941276/

I need to let this run for  a couple of days to make sure it has been resolved.
