Question : Windows Clients Time Out Accessing Shares While Waiting for Server to Wake-Up
Thank you for your help!
My question is this: How do I increase the time a Windows Vista/Win7 client will wait before timing-out, when accessing a shared folder on the network?
In this network the Server 2008 serves go into sleep mode during inactivity. When a Vista/Win7 client attemtps to connect to a shared folder on a sleeping server the server will wake up, but not soon enough to avoid the client from displaying an "unable to connect" error msg.
In testing it takes about 45 seconds for the server to wake and the shared folders to become available. But the Windows clients will time-out after waiting only +/-20 seconds.
How do I configure the Vista/Win7 clients to wait longer for the server to respond?
Thank you,
Randy Graves

It would be better not to have the server go into sleep mode in the first place, its not a recommended setting
