Question : Registry cannot load the hive.

Computer starts to load O/S with MS 2000 logo up. . As MS blue line reaches the end, the computer reports;

STOP c))))210 (Registry File failure)
the registry cannot load the hive (file)
System Root\System 32\Config\SOFTWARE
or its log or alternate
It is corrupt, absent or not writeable.

Message is flashed for only a second. The computer then recycles and again attempts to restart with same result.   Using F8 for safe modes has ame result as above.

Windows 2000 O/S on MSI  K8M Neo-V motherboard.
CPU AMD Athlon 64 2800+, Single 120 GB Seagate SATA HDD, 2X512MB DDR 40 memory,
Boot sequence is: Floppy, CD-DVD-0, BBS-0(RAID)
Note:  Only one Hard drive (SATA) plugged in.  CD-DVD is Master on IDE 1

Hard rive checked by SeaTools Quick and Long tests passed. SMART is OK
ViaTech VT8237 SATA Raid BIOS v4.50 shows the SATA Hard Drivewith status HDD .Monitor screen offers Flashing notice that "the number of disks in not sufficient to create a RAID".  Know that.  Have not wanted RAID on this computer,  Computer had been running reliably for 2 years.  Booting Win 2000 from the installation CD and chosing R=Repair, computer reports cannot proceed-cannot find hard drive.

Would appreciate any suggestions which will allow this computer to startup.

Answer : Registry cannot load the hive.

You do not want to start an XP Install (New option). Best bet now is to connect drive to another W2K or XP PC and recover data files. Then wipe clean and reinstall W2K.

The same message appears whether repair is successful or not.
