Question : need assistance adding external IM functionality to our OCS 2007 install

can someone provide instructions as to the best way to enable our OCS 2007 R2 server to accept external IM recipient addresses such as: yahoo.com / hotmail.com / gmail.com / aim.com etc

We currently have OCS 2007 R2 Std edition installed internally in our company, and works great. now users are requesting the ability to add external IM contacts and would like to chat with them through the Office Communicator client.

thx in advance,

S.

yes you must install Edge server; i would highly recommend you download and run Office communications Server Edge Planning tool from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=EC4B960C-3FE2-41BD-ABDF-AE89CFCB8C6C&displaylang=en

The Edge Planning Tool for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 provides settings for configuring your perimeter network based on information that you provide to the tool.
