Question : Determine which WAN Connection to use?

Hi There,

we already have an ISA 2006 up and running and want to upgrade our infrastructure to Essential Business Server including TMG, Medium Business Edition

As far as I know, TMG now supports multiple (two?) WAN connections.

What I like to know, is: is it possible to determine with rules, that special OUTGOING traffic only uses a specific WAN connection?

The reason is: We have two WAN connections, one is a SDSL with a static IP address. We must send out SMTP traffic over this WAN connection. If we send out over the other connection, our mails are often identified as spam.

Thank you in advance and best regards

Ralph

Answer : Determine which WAN Connection to use?

No, the decision of the route for traffic to take is still based on its destination ip address, not on the traffic protocol - the same as it works for ISA Server. For example, the only way that you could target smtp traffic to use a specific interface is:

a) The specific interface is the external interface (the default) as designated within the Forefront TMG device;
b) You had used a smarthost within the mail server thereby giving a specific ip address that all smtp traffic was to be sent. This option then allows you to add a static route on the ftmg box stating that traffic for address ww.xx.yy.xzz use an alternative outbound interface.
