Question : Exchange Server Wont Start

I am relatively new to exchange server...installed it a year ago, no problems until now.  Earlier this morning it would not start, gave me an error of 1011.  I checked the net and it suggested to use instreg -patch.  I did that and it seemed to fix everything.  Later that day it crashed.  I rebooted the server and it will not come back up.  The message I get is:
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated with service-specific error 4294967041.

I have searched microsoft with no answers, so any help would be greatly appreaciated.

Answer : Exchange Server Wont Start

If you do run eseutil run it in read only mode first. This will allow you to see how much data you are going to lose.

First do you have a good backup.
If yes then just restore from the backup, don't repair it. The repair will be an interim fix (if it works).

If you have no backup do the read only eseutil and see if it is likely to recover it. Then take a copy of priv, pub and run it.
Then if you can get the is up, use exmerge to extract all the data to pst. Then stop the is, delete priv.edb and restart it, this will create a blank IS. Next log into the admin mailbox and send a mail to all mailboxes to initalise them. then use exmerge to pull the data back in.
This is what I went through with PSS 6 months ago.

hope it helps
