Question : Unable to uninstall Windows SharePoint Services

I go to Control Panel->Add or Remove. I select Windows SharePoint Services. I click Remove. I am asked if I really want to remove WSS. I click Yes. The uninstallation process starts and then stops after about 10 seconds without removing WSS.
Why am I trying to uninstall WSS. Because when I run the SharePoint config wizard inside the Admin Tools, it causes an exception. Therefore I wanted to attempt doing an uninstall and then a reinstall.
