Question : Windows 2000 Server - Administrator ID - Invalid security ID Structure
|
|
The problem seems straight forward... However, has these things often are, the standard ideas aren't working.
I can not do any windows updates. The administrator ID has loss access to many files in several folders, "access deined". Yes, I've tried with some success locating files and taking ownership and reassigning security, but the files are spread out over well over 260 thousand entries. I believe I created the problem when I copied over data from a external NAS from an old system and mistakely pulled the ACL information over, but I am not sure. I think this seems logical. I figured, No biggie, the administrator ID can reassign the security stuff and surprise, I was wrong. There must have been no user named "administrator" on the external NAS device??? I'm guessing there. Anyway, I have tried subinacl, and the result is a 1337 error. So, now I think the administrator ID is invalid or corrupt. That's where the "can't do any windows updates" comes in, as a possible symptom of that issue matches the conditions of the error 1337 on the subinacl code. I would rebuild the server, but I can't copy the data off without multiple like hundreds of "access denied" issues. So many files are not being included in the backup. I tried several methods to get that data off and have now given up, hoping someone has an idea how to fix this fun.
Lesson learned, BTW - I will not mistakenly copy any security info over from old systems.
Thanks....
