Question : Dell Dimension 3100/E310 need to load xp on and won't  recognise Xp cd with service pack 2 on

Hi have a dell Dimension 3100 which has been running as a Linux machine which installed from a Cd fine, now I wish to install xp on it and it won't let me. I choose the boot from CD option then the screen just goes blank and stays like that.
any help would be very much appreciated, the pc has no floppy drive and a sata hard drive.

I would start with enter the bios and reset to defaults.
Next i would try to get a bootable cd and format the harddrive full and not quick.
Then try to install xp again.
