Question : Disable file explorer rename on Windows

I've gotten exceptionally tired of the way that Windows File Explorer will jump into "file rename" mode if I'm not careful when i select a file to do something else with it.

it's absolutely ludicrous that MS didn't feel providing a popup menu was sufficient for this and that what the user wanted when they "mis-clicked" was to start renaming things.  But, MS's usability PhDs throw real usability out the window all the time.

Does anyone know of any way to disable this in file explorer?

Answer : Disable file explorer rename on Windows

I know what you are talking about, but I usually get it if I double click too fast/slow. Maybe your speeds are too high/low for the Double Click?, and if you dont click just right, Windows thinks it is a single click?

Go to the Control Panel>Mouse Properties>and play with the click speeds to see if that corrects the problem, or at least minimizes it a tad....

Have you thought of changing your Click behaviour to Single Click to open? Might take some getting used to....

I also believe Tweak UI can control the clickspeed, but I dont think you are going to see that it fixes the problem, but thought I would offer it.

Other than that, you would have to modify the code for Explorer.wexe to stop the process... I dont think you will be able to do that even, without causing stability problems with Windows...
