Question : How to Access USB External Hard Drive from Command Prompt
Hello, I'm trying to fix a computer and it looks like there is something severely wrong and the computer needs to be wiped. I need to restore as much data as possible however. Currently when I try to repair Windows XP Home with the repair disk, it hangs at 35 minutes left when installing devices.
I have removed memory sticks, the NIC card, DVD players, disabled all ports except necessary for booting in the BIOS, reset the BIOS, removed the battery on the motherboard and replaced it, ensured the CD drive and CD had no scratches, etc....
At any rate, I've accessed the command line via the Shift+F10 method while Windows is Stuck at "35 minutes left to complete". I have an external USB hard drive connected to the computer, which I'm trying to access via the command line, so that I can copy the files on the hard drive to it. However, I have no idea how to access it; I have tried to "cd d:\, cd e:\, cd f:\" (all the way to a k drive), and nothing is found.
Am I missing something really simple? Please help!
