Question : Slow speeds accessing files from Windows Server 2008 Standard

I have a new Windows 2008 Standard  file/print Server  installed at a clients office. the workstations are all gigabit LAN enabled and theyre all connected by a 16port Netgear Gigabit unmanaged switch. The server runs AD, DNS and DHCP, I have a set of login scripts running, which point them to their data directories, which all appear to have the correct permissions allocated. All they need to do is basically browse to their folders and open the files to work on them, but some of these directories, which are only 2 to 3 sub folders deep, can take up to 40 seconds to open. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be, as this is my first time setting up Server 2008, and its driving me crazy, as I need to get this over and done with and bill the client for a completed job..

Thanks
Andrew

Answer : Slow speeds accessing files from Windows Server 2008 Standard

Hi Micral
What server are hardware you using? Mine is an HP ML150 G5. I think I might have found a solution to my issue, it looks like there is a "TCP/UDP Checksum Offload (IPv4)" option on the adapter properties thats doing it. I disabled that option, and everything appears to be much faster now. What it does for the card I dont really know, but it did cause me a lot of grief.
