Question : Can I use a hard drive and a enclosure to backup a Win98 computer?

I have a computer that I need to upgrade from Win98 to Windows 7. I need to backup that computer before I can even think of the actual upgrade! I've been looking at buying a hard drive and a enclosure to dump the data on it.

Can I use such setup? Will it be USB backward compatible? If I remember Win98 is USB 1.0.

Thanks!

Consider using Firewire. Get an external drive with a Firewire interface. It costs a little more. If your drive is large and you need to make backups many times, you will die of old age before the backup completes. Yes USB is that slow. There are addon Firewire cards for you computer.
