Question : Delay user login on Xp Startup to allow Drive Mapping GPO
We have an issue where users are logging on but not getting all of their network drives.
We have just installed a VPN solution that checks for network connectivity during bootup and requires an acknowledgment before passing any data. As a consequence the network is not always available by the time the user logs on. This causes us issues with our drive mapping 2008 Preference GPO. Unfortunately we have to use this new GPO as security policies dictate that we are not allowe dot run vbs, or any type of script/batch files on our network.
We have found that if we leave the machine at the login screen for 30 seconds then the network becomes available and the drives map properly. Unfortunately users often forget and log in as soon as the prompt is available.
We have tried......
Applying "Wait for network at computer startup and logon" policy.
Dword Value in Registry GPNetworkStartTimeoutPolic
ayValue.
Can anybody think of a better solution.
Cheers,
Tim
Answer : Delay user login on Xp Startup to allow Drive Mapping GPO
In the end we have had to set the drives to reconnect on logon via the 2008 drive mapping preference. This is ok but it means that the drives don't get cleared until a GPUpdate has occured.
