Question : SBS2008/Exchange2007/Pop3 Client Errors

All, seeing this error setting up pop3 clients.  "Send test e-mail message: Your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).  The server responded: +OK The Microsoft Exchange POP3 service is ready."
For the sake of the discussion:
1.  This worked when I set it up.
2.  I can duplicate this error on multiple clients inside and out, so this isn't a firewall thing.
3.  The service is running, and runs as the local system account
4.  The send/receive transports are set to SSL/587 inbound, TLS auth.  Setup by the numbers and successfully.
5.  Cert's installed locally
6.  Have no problems with OWA/RWW
7.  I can't find the corresponding event id on the server that goes with this client end error.

thoughts?
