Question : VPN PPTP

Hi all,

We are tying to set up pptp vpn connection for a customer with 2000 std server.

We have enabled port forwarding from the router for 1723, and configured Ras on the server.  when ever a client trys to connect it gets to the verifying username and password then times out with a warning no response from the server.

In ther server logs we get an error regarding L2TP connection refused as no certificate services installed.   If we disable L2TP ports we get no erros and still no connection.

I can not see any other errors and no logs are being produced.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Darren

Answer : VPN PPTP

Just so you know what the actual cause was,,, GRE is not tcp port 47,,, TCP port 47 and GRE are 100% seperate things.  Where did you get port 47 from?  I know that GRE is sometimes called "protocol 47", but that does NOT mean opening tcp port 47 will do anything for you,, they are totally different things.  You HAVE to allow the GRE protocol through in order for a PPTP VPN to work, period.  Upgrading your firmware did this for you.
