Question : Setting up MSDE 2000

Hi all,

I recently had to wipe and re-install my hard drive. I had two Access apps that were connected to MSDE 2000 which I loaded from my Office 2003 disks at the time.

So I'm trying to re-install MSDE 2000 from my 2003 disk but I'm getting message after message. First about having a strong password. Then, an invalid instance name.

It seems that no matter what I do I'm having a problem.

Can anyone walk me through how to re-install MSDE 2000. I seem to remember it being VERY easy when I had done it before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
E

Answer : Setting up MSDE 2000

Hi all, I finally got this installed. Sorry it took so long to respond. The answer was quite simple. First, MSDE 2000 can not be run by double clicking on the Setup icon. It must be run from a command prompt or Run command from the Start Menu. Second, you must give it a valid password.

Here's what I used:

C:\sql2ksp3\MSDE\setup.exe SAPWD=mypassword

With that it installed fine.

Also, anyone attempting this must know that you must remove any older version of SQL Desktop before installing a new version.

Thanks again for your help.

E
