Question : Sharepoint permissions not pulling users from Active Directory.

I have been encountering a problem recently when deploying my sharepoint site. It is synched with Active Directory. I added various domain (distribution) groups from my active directory to Sharepoint sites and lists, but it seems as though the permissions do not work, almost as if Sharepoint cannot see the users in these groups. Also, when I add individual users from AD it works flawlessly, just not via the aforementioned groups.

How do I make these groups set permissions for the users inside of them?

Thanks.

Answer : Sharepoint permissions not pulling users from Active Directory.

The distribution groups are for just that - sending mail etc.  You're going to need Security Groups for the users.  Easiest thing is just create a Security group for each group you want.  You can cut down on the extra administrative tasks by adding the user to the distribution group and then putting the distribution group INTO the Sharepoint Security group.  That way if you need to add a user to the group, you do so once and they'll be set for Sharepoint.
