Question : error installing ikernel.exe:(0x800)

i keep receiving this error installing ikernel.exe when trying to install different products.
example: flash5, adobe4.05, and even updated drivers for the optiquest monitor that i have.
i have ran out of options at this point of what else to try.
my pc is a home computer running win98se.
i hope i can get some help or some ideas on this.

Found this on a page concerning installation problems: (another program than the ones mentioned)

     "Error in installing ikernel.exe"

  If you are running Windows 2000, verify you have permission to install
  software on the machine.

  If you are running Windows 98, try one or all of the following:

  1. Get the latest Service Pack from Microsoft for Windows 98.
  2. Re-install Internet Explorer 5.01 if already installed.
  3. Run Dcom 95/98 on Windows 95/98.
  4. Delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine\6 folder.
