Question : Installing: What is it With this here "Mscreate.dir"

For the widely proliferated file name: Mscreate.dir
1) What is its purpose?
2) What is it that produces it?
3) Should I/we leave them around? Why or why not?
4) How best to not allow infestation if not desireable?
5) How best to remove them, if that is desired?

Seems like I should know, did know, some of this at one time, but it escapes me once more.

Answer : Installing: What is it With this here "Mscreate.dir"

Sorry, I thought I replied (had some flaky computer problems and it was probably never submitted).

3) Should I/we leave them around? Why or why not?
This is answered in the KB Article - "If an empty folder does not contain this file, when you run Setup in maintenance mode, Setup will not remove this folder. "  The question is - is it important to YOU to have an uninstall program, should you choose to uninstall, remove the directories.  If so then you SHOULD leave them.  If not, then you can delete them and recover a small amount of space (1 cluster per file)

4) How best to not allow infestation if not desireable?
There is no option in Microsoft setup programs to NOT create these files - that being the case, if you DON'T want them, then do a search after you install any Microsoft products for "MSCREATE.DIR" and then delete them.

5) How best to remove them, if that is desired
Do a search after you install any Microsoft products for "MSCREATE.DIR" and then delete them.
