Question : Outlook 2007 constantly asking for password in SBS 2008 domain

Starting last week, a few users began complaining that Outlook was asking for a password. These are XP Pro machines on a Windows SBS 2008 domain, all working fine for months. Within 48 hours of the first complaint, all users began experiencing the same frustration. Outlook is actually connected to the Exchange box and working fine, so when the password prompt comes up the users simply hit Esc, but I'm getting yelled at.

I've seen some postings regarding ..\Microsoft\Protect files on the local machines. Deleting those did not address the issue. Another idea was to explore the Registry for missing protection keys, but none are missing that I can see. There are no other email accounts setup on the machines (e.g. pop, imap, etc.). Nothing has been modified on the SBS box unless by Microsoft Update.

I'm hoping someone can help me 1) correct this and 2) figure out what happened so I can prevent it.

Thanks

There are many questions asking the same thing. Have you looked through the previous asked question database?

Primary cause - lack of patching. You need to ensure that Exchange 2007 Rollup 9 is installed. It doesn't go on automatically, you have to approve it in Updates in the management console.
