Question : Create Pie Chart in Excel 2007

Hi all.

I have an excel 2007 spreadsheet with the following data:

State---Sales

The problem is each state has more than one row (for each account) so you have:

AL--$50
AL--$20
MA--$10
NV--$5
NV--$10
NV--$15

So when I create the pie chart it lists AL twice and NV three times. What I want it to do is sum up for each state and it's not doing this. How can I get the pie chart to sum up for the same states without having the end user have to manually do subtotals?

Thank you in advance!

Answer : Create Pie Chart in Excel 2007

You will need to do the subtotals, but you need not do them manually. Use the Subtotals feature!

1. sort by state
2. Data tab --> Subtotals
3. At each change in: State
    Use the function: Sum
    Add subtotal to: Sales
4. OK

This will give you the subtotals.

Over on the side you will see brackets. Click the little number 2 above the brackets to collapse the data and just see subtotals. Make the graph off of that.

Let me know if any of this is confusing -- or upload the spreadsheet and I will do it for you.
