Question : How to get zip codes to convert properly from Excel to Access

I am trying desperately to convert a mailing list that I have in Excel into Access so I can generate mailing labels.  The problem is the leading zero in the zip code field.  Every time I import the records into Access, the leading zero is gone regardless of whether the field is set up as text in excel or the special zip code field format.  The file views fine in excel with the 5 digit zip code but when exported the leading zero is gone leaving a four digit code.  There are 1800 records, so I don't want to do it manually.  Or, is there a way to change the data in the access field to globally add a zero to the value if the field value is less than 5 characters?

No actually you are correct that did not work with the cell formatted as general.  However with the column formatted as 'Text' I was able to save the document as a tab delimited file and the leading zero remained.  Then I imported the Tab delimited file into Access and the leading zeros were included in the Access column.
