Question : Icons on desktop don't completely refresh

When opening various folders, the icons on my desktop refresh but not all icons completely come back, leaving only a blank white box with the name below. Restart may refresh some, but not all.  Then the same ones will all be lost again with random folder selection. No virus or spyware detected by ZoneAlarm.  Problem did not begin until problems downloading Adobe 8. What could be causing this issue?

Search you computer for all instances of desktop.ini - and delete them.
