Question : This message has not been sent.

|
I've encountered a problem with an Outlook 2003 client (SP2). The user sent an email to an internal and external address, both of which received the email. However, when you go into the message under Sent Items, it says in a grey box at the top, "This message has not been sent." It's only a minor issue as the message definitely has been received by both the internal and external contact (I checked through Message Tracking on Exchange 2003 SP2), but it would be nice to know why it does this.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

Hi OLSTechTeam,
To me it sounds like the folders may need to be reset. The status "This message has not been sent" is what you see in your Drafts. Try using the resetfolders switch. It probably will not correct the status for the email that was already sent but, if you can reproduce it, see if it goes away after resetting the folders. Click the Start Button and type this in the Open box field.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe" /resetfolders
Note: You have to add the quotes anytime there is a space in the path. There is a space between Program and Files, another space between Microsoft and Office.
Does the user have a pst file? If so, run scanpst on his pst file. You can find the Inbox Repair Tool, scanpst.exe, here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 or C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033 Double click it and browse to your pst file located here: C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
If the user doesn't have a pst and nothing has worked so far, try reseting the views. ***** Warning this will remove any custom views you have ****** 1. close out of outlook 2. click on start >> Run 3. type in the command below. Be sure to use the quotes. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\Outlook.exe" /cleanviews 4. click on OK
Let us know how you do. cheers, frankco
