Question : Windows 98 Splash Screen (logo) freezes during bootup

Whenever I boot up my Windows 98 machine, the Windows 98 logo appears and then simply freezes. Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work and I have to hit the power button to shut down and try again.

During normal boot-up there is a thin line of varying colour at the very bottom of this screen which moves from right to left indicating some kind of activity. Within about 5-10 seconds it stops and the Win 98 logo screen freezes and just stays there. There is no further disk activity.

I can boot properly in safe-mode and there is no apparent problem with any of the files. I did a scan disk and got no bad sectors.

Any help out there?

Answer : Windows 98 Splash Screen (logo) freezes during bootup

While booting press f8 key when you see starting windows. From boot menu choose command prompt and make sure step by step confirmation is set to yes at the bottom of screen

This will ask for confirmation for each line in the startup.

Bybass the Mcafee line in autoexec.bat and then type edit autoexec.bat.

Delete the line for Mcafee or just put a rem statement in front of it so bootup will ignore in future
