Question : How do I configure Media Center with cable set top box?
|
|
I just got a Comcast set top box for digital TV. Then old configuration (no set top box) had coax to the PC tuner card directly from the wall through a splitter. Media Center will detect the non-digital channels just fine with that old set up. The analog channels record fine.
The PC TV tuner has analog coax, digital coax, and s-video inputs. I have tried connecting all three with no luck. I took the set top box coax output (labeled as TV/VCR) and connected to both the analog coax input and the digital coax input on the PC tuner (separately). All I get is snow on the monitor with either one. I tried removing the coax from the PC and using the s-video from the set top box. Still snow.
With the s-video input I used the MC TV configuration utility to set things up. It found the digital tuner ok. When I plugged in the IR-blasters (in and out) it would let me complete the configuration utility, although I couldn't get the Motorola codes figured out.
Any idea why the PC won't properly decode the digital input, and show a picture?

You should be able to connect the coax out on your cable box to the coax in on your TV card and receive a signal on channel 3 or 4. You will then need to change channels with your cable box and not the TV tuner in the PC. Some TV Cards come with an IR out that you can attach to your cable box so it can control the cable box.
You should also be able to get video on the S-Video port, you will need to change the TV card to video input and again will need to change channels on the cable box and not the TV card.
