Question : Skype - creating single click dial to telephone numbers in Access 2003 database
|
|
I've seen some discussions on chat sites etc as to how single click dial to telephone numbers in Access 2003 databases can be done so that Skype recognises them and formats them in the usual way. We've tried exporting data in HTML format. Not much success so far. Anyone got any ideas?

If you cut and paste the following command into your browser's address bar and run it, you will see my signature replaced by an image and a link.
javascript:(function(){(b=document.body).innerHTML=b.innerHTML.replace(/\(°v°\)/g,'<br><a target=new href="http:/M_94825.html"><img src="http://www.harfang.ch/src/pagowl.png" title="(°v°)"></a>');})()
Skype does not interfere with your web pages, but you have installed an add-on, the Skype IE or Firefox web toolbar, which automatically searches for phone numbers and performs a similar replace. This add-on is normally not active if you use and embedded browser (but I can't test all combinations of browsers and add-ons, naturally).
There isn't such an add-on for Access, but you can easily implement clickable phone numbers by using the "callto:" protocol, which Skype does trap. You can verify that by choosing (Tools | Options...), [File types] from any explorer window and studying the list.
