Question : Office 2007 volume licensing and Terminal Server
|
|
MS Office 2007 Volume License question...
i am trying to estimate the number of licenses i would require.
if i have a user that wants a local installation of Office, and that user also connects to a Terminal Server that has Office installed, do i have to issue 2 licenses for that 1 user?
how does licensing Office on a Terminal Server work?

Answer : Office 2007 volume licensing and Terminal Server

It depends on your Office Version of Office on the Computer/Terminal Server for example:
if you have Office 2003 Pro on your Laptop/Desktop but Office 2007 Pro on Terminal Server, than yes you would need to purchase a license for Terminal Server
if you have Office 2007 Pro on your Laptop/Desktop and Office 2003/2007 Pro on the Terminal Server than no wouldn't need to purchase another license.
Also note that the Office 2003/2007 Versions also play a part, i.e. Basic, Standard, Professional, Professional Plus, Enterprise
for example
if you only have Office 2007 Basic on your Laptop/Desktop and Office 2007 Professional on the Terminal Server, you will need to purchase an additional license.
Overall it's best to discuss this with a Microsoft Representative, they will tell you which licensing will best fit your organisation, for example we use to license per device, of course this meant alot of administrative overhead, especially during the licensing Trueup each year, now we license per user which means that we just look at our staff numbers once a year and trueup accordingly.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
