Question : Cant Install SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2
I'm using Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 as a desktop/workstation machine since I want to use it for work and personal use, but for the past few days I've been struggling to get SQL Server 2008 up and running.
At first it would throw "External component has thrown an exception." and fail to install the database engine, replication and full text search. After several uninstall-reinstall with different configurations I tried to uninstall only the database engine and now the microsoft sql server entry wont get out of Program and Features. No biggy, i can live with that.
But after now when I attempt to install again im getting the following error early in the process during the install of the Setup Support Files
*TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup

which leaves me pretty much clueless. it looks like registry corruption, any thoughts on fixing that?
Besides that, theres the problem installing the Database Engine, I'm attaching the summary and detail logs of one the failed installs since I have no idea what to look for in there.
Clear OS reinstall is kinda out of question since if it comes to that I'd rather set up a VM on Hyper-V and use it from there, but I'd prefer to fix the whole deal if possible.
Any help is appreciated
