Question : How to use DOS with Virtual PC

From the answers to an earlier question, I want to use Virtual PC to run a DOS program under XP Pro.  So, I want to use MS DOS or perhaps Win95.  I am looking for a step by step in setting up one or the other of these operating systems in Virtual PC.  The machine I am trying to set this up on has a CD drive but no floppy.  Any help in finding the right information would be much appreciated.

Answer : How to use DOS with Virtual PC

Huh?  There is no DOS 6.0 available for download from Microsoft.   If you're a TechNet/MSDN subscriber you can get MSDOS 6.22, but it *is* an upgrade.   I don't think any of the official DOS CDROM were bootable.

No matter, moving on... if it's an *.img file, then it's probably an ISO CDROM image.   Hopefully, it is also a bootable CDROM.  That will actually make things a bit easier.   The ability to load an ISO image "as a CDROM" is very straight forward.   Here is what  you'd do.

Create a new virtual PC (to include a new Virtual hard drive).
Start the virtual PC... it obviously won't boot... since there is no OS yet
Click on the CD menu item... and choose "Capture ISO image"
Select the path to the ISO image file
Reset the Virtual PC (this will reboot using the CDROM image)
Install MSDOS from the CDROM

If this doesn't work,  then you should go back to my suggestion of using the floppy images.   It works just like the CDROM images, except the image files are for floppy disks.
