Question : SharePoint "webpage cannot be found" error message after installation

Hello, I just finished installing Share Point Services on a Windows Server 2K3, installation went fine witn no error messages...at the end of the installation a browser automatically opens up wit the url: http://mysharepointservername/
however the page that opens has no information at all, all I can see is the  webpage cannot be found message (http 400 bad request)...is there any additional configuration that I need to do so that I wont get that error page?....if i try to central administration (http://mysharepointservername:37827) I get asked for a user name and password, I enter my domains admin account and I am able to login successfully and see all the configuration options in central administration. I am assuming that regular users would have to point their browser to http://mysharepointservername/ to access SharePoint however as I said they get the error page instead of sharepoint.....do I need to do anything to make sure that users do not get that error page when they try to access sharepoint??

Answer : SharePoint "webpage cannot be found" error message after installation

no.  search service would just prevent search for working.

however, if you have wss 3.0, you would need to create a web application and site collection in Central Administration.

if you have wss 3.0, then you would see 2 tabs in central administration.  one is called Operations and the other is Application Management.  you create your web application and site collection from the Application Management tab.  also, if you have wss 3.0, when you are in central administration, if you click the help question mark in the top right hand corner of the screen, one of the options in the help menu is Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 Help and How-to.

That help menu has the steps for how to create a web application and site collection....
